As a consequence of the change of the working environment from stationary to mobile workplaces, the devices used must be mobile as well. It is necessary, and now also possible, to access corporate data from practically anywhere. "Mobile data" is not a new phenomenon, but has been used on a day-to-day basis for a long time. The laptop was the first device to make corporate data mobile over a wide area. At first, the devices were used offline, meaning that the data was installed in the company and it could be used in transit. Only with the connection to the corporate intranet did this mobile data become synchronised mobile data. Significant changes have occurred in this regard: Up-to-date documents and figures are now available at any time and place, emails are checked promptly by the user, and appointments are organised online with colleagues and business partners. It is impossible to imagine today's working environment without mobile terminal devices.
